Giveaway: Win a double-pass to Cake Bake & Sweets Show!

Listen up, peoples! There’s a new food show in town and you want to check it out because it’s all about cake and sweets and cake and baking and pastry chefs and cake and cooking reality show personalities... And did I mention there was cake? Heheh.

The inaugural Cake Bake & Sweets Show is being held across three days from 21-23 March at Sydney’s Olympic Park. There’ll be live cooking demonstrations, hands-on workshops, plus lots to ogle and buy. Featuring familiar names such as Dan Lepard, Adriano Zumbo, Kirsten Tibballs, my pastry crush of the moment Anna Polyviou, and blogging alumni Sharon Wee, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Now I would go if I could, but it’s a bit difficult when the mini-human takes his long nap at varying times of the day, sometimes for 2 hours and at other times 3 hours – keeps me on my toes, as Catty says! I’m sure people wouldn’t appreciate him crying a racket whilst enjoying a cooking demo, plus it’s probably not the best idea to be pushing a 4-month-old through noisy crowds anyway. So I’ll just have to live vicariously through one of you lucky people who get to win a double-pass to go to the show for yourselves!

Courtesy of the Cake Bake & Sweets Show and National Media, one lucky Spoon, Fork & Chopsticks reader will receive a double-pass to attend the show in Sydney on a day of their choice. All you have to do is:

  1. Leave a comment below telling me what your earliest cake or dessert memory is, and what makes it so memorable for you. Entries close Wednesday, 12 March 2014 at 11pm Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time. The winning entrant will be chosen by Monsieur Poisson (AKA the Husband, AKA the one who doesn’t cook) and will be published here in a future post. Any rude/profane/offensive entries will be deleted and excluded from competition.
2.     AND send an email to mademoiselledelicieuse@gmail.com with the subject line of “Cake Bake & Sweets giveaway” and include your full name as well as a copy of your comment in the body of the email. This is so you can be contacted should you be the chosen winner.

Terms & conditions:
1.     The winner will receive one double-pass allowing 2 persons to attend one day of their choice at the Cake Bake & Sweets Show, held in Sydney from 21-23 March 2014. Any costs, such as travel or accommodation, incurred by the winner to attend this show will be borne by the winner themselves.
2.     The winner’s email address will be forwarded to a National Media representative to be contacted to arrange ticket delivery details.

  1. It's actually not my memory, but a photo of my one year old mother sneakily stealing the topper off her birthday cake. Instantly when I think of cake memories I think of that priceless sepia photo.

  2. In year one teacher bought me a chocolate mud cake for my b'day and for the class to enjoy, ever since then i have only wanted a chocolate cake for my b'day.

  3. Earliest cake was my 4th birthday cake filled with fruits and cream. It had my favourite cartoon character at the time :)

  4. My mum's Chocolate Cake, with choc mint icing. I suppose because it was the cake she always cooked for our birthdays....and it tasted great of course! I used to love mushing it up in a bowl of vanilla ice cream much to her horror! (cookies... or should I say cake & cream ice cream type result)

  5. I remember flicking through the Women's Weekly kids birthday cake book from probably the age of two. My mum would let us pick a cake each year and she would make it.

  6. Excluding all the Asian durian cakes that we got for our birthdays each year, my earliest dessert memory would have to be the first time I set foot into the kitchen to bake. I was about to embark on making dessert pizza; I can't remember the exact recipe but I can never forget the burnt smell filling the air or the sight of a blacken, unsalvageable mess that was in front of me. Never again....

  7. Fondest memory is receiving a Coffee Pecan Sponge Cake EVERY YEAR for my birthday till I was about 10 or so.
    Year after year, I thought we'd change cakes … and when I was younger, I didn't wanna speak up and say I didn't like the cake.
    When I finally did … my mum told me that a birthday was a chance for her to buy the cake SHE likes, which is why she always got that cake.
    Now, I no longer eat that cake, but she gets it every year :)

  8. I remember a Cookie Monster cake and sitting on the ground eating all the blue icing and my fingers were still blue the next day, I thought that was cool.

  9. Getting the red glace cherry from the Cheesecake Factory mudcake- such a prize! All the cousins wanted it! Family & cake always make for a good memory :)

  10. It was not a cake or fancy dessert, just a cup of green-apple flavoured jelly! I used to like jellies and puddings but then a cousin (he was like 7 years old) came by just in time for me to eat that jelly, and he was holding a bowl full of caterpillars! They were, errr, wobbly and squiggly so I was kinda put off by the image, so much that I don't even want to eat that cup of green-coloured jelly. I still haven't really come in terms with jellies until now..

  11. My earliest cake memory is of my Aunt's Wedding cake when I was five. The most vivid thing I remember about the cake is it falling onto, and splattering all over, the floor as I was trying to grab a piece of it. I also vividly remember how angry my parents were.

  12. Maccas ice cream cake! I remember in the old days when having a birthday party at Maccas was the cool thing to do. The best part of the party was of course the ice cream cake with all the colourful sprinkles and rainbow flavours. I remember myself and all the kids would scream and jump up and down with excitement when Ronald McDonald brought it out with the sparklers and candles. When it was placed in front of me, all the kids would try and blow the candles out before I did. I remember as I was standing up to slap the kid who blew out my candles, I accidentally knocked over some fries onto the cake. That was when I discovered the wonderful taste of ice cream with fries which I still enjoy today.
