Sugar Hit 2013: Glass Brasserie

What do you know, October has come around which means Good Food Month and I’m almost at the end of growing this mini human. While I’m most looking forward to motherhood, my current freer status means that there is still time to indulge in Sugar Hits! And while I’m glad that Good Food Month has reverted to its much easier-to-remember former name, it’s a shame that Sugar Hits has taken on the new moniker of Let’s Do Dessert – why change what we know and love?

First cab off the rank for Monsieur Poisson and I this year is Glass Brasserie, with its enticingly-described offering of “Chocolate dêlice with peanut butter ice-cream and salted caramel popcorn”.

Presented on a teardrop-shaped plate is a richly-smooth dark chocolate slice on a feuilletine base topped with salted peanuts and caramel popcorn. The popcorn has a great toffee crunch and whilst I could eat a whole bag on its own, its flavour is a little lost when eaten with the choc dêlice. The salted peanuts work a treat, however, as does the peanut butter ice-cream with its whole nuts and swirls of peanut butter throughout. Overall the components combine to produce an elegant Snickers-like dessert.

Glass is serving their Sugar Hit with Brown Brothers’ Moscato, which staff were kind enough to replace with a pot of Japanese green tea for this mother-to-be.
